organizational
structure
beyond the
paid staff
in order to
remain alive
and
breathing.
In the
United
Methodist
Church,
there are
several
'governing'
bodies,
composed of
laity and
clergy, that
keep the
church as a
building and
congregation
alive and
well. This
is where the
congregation
gets its
missions,
its
programs,
its outreach
and its
financial
solvency.
Instead of
the word
committee,
'team' seems
to fit these
areas of
service
better. All
of the
people that
sit on the
councils and
teams are
selected
according to
prayer and
various
guidelines
set forth in
the Book of
Discipline.
They must
willingly
accept the
positions
they are
called for
and be
willing to
be eager to
help in
their
particular
area of
service -
working
together as
a team to
"Share God's
Love and
Make
Disciples
For Christ"
as our
mission
states.

CHURCH
COUNCIL
Church Council
is the main governing body of
Northside. It handles matters of
business regarding, financial,
building ideological direction and
staffing of the church. Many of the
members of the council are
chairpersons of other church bodies
or paid staff members. The lay
leader and senior pastor also sit on
this council.

Staff Parish Relations Committee
serves as the "Personnel Office" of
the church. Staff Parish Relations
ensures that the church is
appropriately staffed. The committee
provides guidance to the Pastor
regarding the establishment of
priorities for ministry and
evaluating the effectiveness of that
ministry.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Board of Trustees
is A board of elected members are
responsible for the stewardship
(maintenance & upkeep) of the church
property, and the management of the
endowment fund of the church,
including periodic reviews of the
investments in the endowment fund
and the expenditures made from that
fund. They are also responsible for
periodically reviewing the insurance
coverage on the church to ensure
they are adequate.

Lay Leadership Committee (Nominating)
Recommends to the charge conference
officers and members of the church
council and other committees as
requires. The committee on lay
leadership also serves throughout
the year to guide the church council
on matters regarding leadership
(other than employed staff) and to
identify, train and support leaders
in the congregation. This committee
is composed of not more than nine
persons in addition to the pastor
and lay leader. The pastor serves as
chairperson.
